On Saturday the 14th at 4AM UTC/GMT we will be upgrading the operating system of our network load balancers to a newer version, one that will allow us to use both CPUs! Nifty, because multiprocessing is nice.

Since we have 2 load balancers, the plan is to upgrade 1 at a time, and there really should be very little impact to our website. Hopefully you won't notice a thing and I'll get to go back to the hotel and watch some wonderful late night infomercials.

We've got a lot of exciting projects coming up for 2010 and we're hoping that we'll be able to deliver them all to you, that you will find it useful/cool/lovely and then you will use the site even more. Behind-the-scenes work like this will give us the capacity to handle the anticipated traffic, so expect a few more maintenance windows especially in the beginning of next year as we've got some neat ideas to improve performance around here! We had the recent 30-45 minute outage yesterday due to one of our logging databases filling up disk space -- not so great design coupled with my human error in handling the initial problem -- and it looks like we're going to finally have some resources to eliminate stuff like that. I can't wait!

As usual, I will be updating status.livejournal.org before and after, just in case you are not able to reach our main website during the work.

Am feeling a lot more human today, although I fear I don't sound like one still! Slept pretty badly, with an epic coughing fit at 12:30am! Oh the joy!

Forgot to mention/flail incoherently yesterday but... (and excuse the capslock abuse!)
WE'VE BOOKED OUR EARLYBIRD COLLECTORMANIA LONDON TICKETS!!!!!!!!!!

This pleases me deeply! We are doing the Sunday!

Also booked Kai Owen photoshoot (just me) and John Barrowman photoshoot (BOTH OF US!)

The last bit was a shock given I was sure mum doesn't like the Barrowman, but she was all YES I WANTS IT TOO, and says that he's hot! *giggles* she's special! She's already telling people at work she's going to grope him (she would as well, she has done before, well not John B... but she grabbed a racing drivers arse!).

Coming soon... my first random poll in a while (because I just felt like doing a poll!)

(The first ginger Azzurri! Davide Biondini, breaking barriers one day at a time.)

In a shocking turn of events, Lippi is using the upcoming friendlies to give some new/little-seen players a chance to impress him. Not that we'll ever see any of them called up for a competitive match, of course, but it's still nice to see some less familiar names.

Most of the usual old folks are there, but Candreva and Biondini (!!!!!!!) both got their first senior calls, while Pazzo, Maggio, Galloppa, Marchionni, Palladino, the finally fit Criscito, and Cassani, who's getting only his second call, are all back in the team. Pepe and D'Agostino both got hurt today against Fiorentina, which might explain their absences, while Santon is with the U21s. And, as we know, Cassano is dead to Lippi, which is why he's not there.
Portieri: BUFFON (JUVENTUS), DE SANCTIS (NAPOLI), MARCHETTI (CAGLIARI)

Difensori: BOCCHETTI (GENOA), CANNAVARO (JUVENTUS), CASSANI (PALERMO), CHIELLINI (JUVENTUS), CRISCITO (GENOA), GROSSO (JUVENTUS), LEGROTTAGLIE (JUVENTUS), MAGGIO (NAPOLI), ZAMBROTTA (MILAN)

Centrocampisti: BIONDINI (CAGLIARI), CAMORANESI (JUVENTUS), CANDREVA (LIVORNO), DE ROSSI (ROMA), MONTOLIVO (FIORENTINA), GALLOPPA (PARMA), MARCHIONNI (FIORENTINA), PALOMBO (SAMPDORIA), PIRLO (MILAN)

Attaccanti: DI NATALE (UDINESE), GILARDINO (FIORENTINA), PALLADINO (GENOA), PAZZINI (SAMPDORIA), ROSSI (VILLARREAL)
The team convene on Tuesday, and will play the Netherlands in Pescara on Saturday, and Sweden in Cesena the following Wednesday.

So! You all cruelly mocked poor Franco for that line up the middle of his chin. What possible reason, you cried, could there be for such an abomination? Well, I will now REVEAL the reason:

HE IS A SECRET BERBER WOMAN.

More proof under the cut )

(Meet Ezequiel Matias Schelotto. He needs to shave.)

For the moment, Casiraghi has stopped calling up infants, and has instead brought Davide Santon back to the U21s, as well as adding two new England-based players: Keeper Vito Mannone, who recently had a run in Arsenal's first team, and Ancelotti's favorite baby, 18-year-old Chelsea striker Fabio Borini. The other debutant is Cesena midfielder Ezequiel Matias Schelotto, the newest addition to the exclusive club of Argentines playing for Italian national teams. (You don't think he meant to call Forestieri up and got his Argies confused, do you?) Macheda, meanwhile, is with the U19s for the start of their Euro qualifying campaign, which is why his name isn't on this list. Edit: He's been called up to replace Alberto, who got hurt this weekend.
Portieri: Fiorillo (Sampdoria), Mannone (Arsenal), Seculin (Fiorentina);
Difensori: Angella (Empoli), Ariaudo (Juventus), Bellusci (Catania) Cremonesi (Cremonese), Brivio (Vicenza), De Silvestri (Fiorentina), Ogbonna (Torino), Ranocchia (Bari), Renzetti (Padova);
Centrocampisti: Barillà (Reggina), Bolzoni (Frosinone), Marrone (Juventus), Mustacchio (Ancona), Poli (Sampdoria), Santon (Inter), Schelotto (Cesena), Soriano (Sampdoria);
Attaccanti: Balotelli (Inter), Borini (Chelsea), Marilungo (Sampdoria), Paloschi (Parma) Macheda (Manchester United).
The team convene on Monday for a couple days of training before flying to Hungary (currently second in the group) ahead of Friday's qualifier. After that, it's off to Luxembourg -- the only team the Azzurrini have beaten thus far -- for a match on Tuesday.

The empire strikes back

In recent weeks, we've taken huge steps towards blocking spam accounts on LiveJournal. In fact, we've suspended as many as 30,000 accounts in a single day! We've implemented several pre-emptive measures to prevent the creation of spam accounts, and we've honed our detection of suspicious content. Spam bots are a crafty lot, so we'll continue to refine our tactics and keep up the good fight to keep you safe from spam attacks on LiveJournal.

RSS feeds again

If you're addicted to [info]xkcd_rss, [info]icanhaschzbrgr, or other syndicated feeds, we're pleased to report that we've resolved the update error that was mucking up your RSS feeds. While content was being pulled correctly, it wasn't being posted to the feeds themselves. Late last week, we finally nailed down what we hope was the root problem, so content should post properly. We thank you for your patience.
